It is reported in Today that Thai police have charged the singer of rock band Burn for setting off fireworks that set a Bangkok club ablaze , killing 66 revellers ,as the investigation into the New Year tragedy wrapped up on Jan,27.
I am so shocked at the number of people who died from the conflagration . The New Year is a time for union . How can it become the grave of those unlucky ones?
Then I wonder whether fireworks should be banned for its disastrous effect.
Firstly , you can never ignore its potential hazard of explosion . The distance between fireworks and the masses is difficult to control for Lunar New Year is a time for people to gether and revel . There are always some people who think they are not near fireworks enough to be hurt but finally getting a harsh lesson . And also , because of any negligence , surroundings may be ablazed by the sparks from fireworks , which involves indefinite danger .
Secondly , it causes severe pollution . Basically , fireworks contains the same chemical ingredients as explosives . Just think about the irritating smells after each explosion , you can imagine how much poisonous gas it releases and how heavy air pollution it causes . Besides , every firework produces a lot of waste paper , which is either exploded into sky or lying on the ground , broken into pieces . It costs both time and money to clear up them all .
In addition , it is a waste of money to certain extent . Up to hundreds yuan or dollars’s worth fireworks are consumed within few minutes . It is really a luxury entertainment .
However , we can’t neglect its positive aspects as well .
It is a tradition which , from our ancestors , has been existed for thousands of years . If we make every effort to protect other customs , how can we leave out this significant one ? It is a cultural heritage which we should keep it going . Futhermore , it is indeed a perfect way to create the joyful atmosphere during the special day . How silent and quiet will it be without fireworks ?
To find a compromise , we really have to think about it seriously . Personally , I don’t think it’s appropriate to ban the fireworks , but there should be some regulations to lead the public behaviors , which makes the entertainment safer .

Fireworks are our important invention, in my opinion, we shouldn't banned them
ReplyDeleteVery exhaustive essay. Personally I don't like fireworks merely because it's too noisy to me.
ReplyDeleteI love a kind of firewoke which in Chinese term is called "二踢脚",but itt's also a bit dangerous,in my opinion, what we should do is not to ban it but to be more careful
ReplyDeleteKick away all the rules!Support fireworks!
ReplyDeleteThanks LingXue, for sharing.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I love fireworks and firecrackers! I grew up in Singapore where firecrackers are banned, and if I hadn't visited countries like China, India, Malaysia and Vietnam, I wouldn't know the joy of lighting firecrackers at all! Which is a pity, in my opinion, because this is such an old festive tradition.
Then again, of course, there is the issue of safety which needs to be looked into.
Tough question indeed.
