Be proactive

Many times, I think I am not proactive enough. A proactive person should take any possible chance for himself or herself whenever and wherever. But I didn’t do well in it.

I recalled my more than 1 month’s study period here. How many good opportunities I have lost!

Yesterday, we had a Hostel Committee Election. Several brave fellows stepped on the stage and gave a speech to all of us. Though I admitted that I didn’t want to be a member in Hostel Committee, it was no doubt a good chance to train and show ourselves. Some of their speeches were definitely not prepared. Their actions were just encouraged by our seniors’ words. However, as far as I’m concerned, they were all excellent. They challenged themselves and cherished the precious opportunities.

Another typical situation happens many times in our class. As time goes on, we may find we gradually lose the excitement and interest in English study. Sometimes, our class is totally covered with silence. Actually, these moments are quite perfect chances for us to share opinions with classmates, because nobody will interrupt you or speak over you voice. However, I find sometimes I lost these chances not because nothing occurred in my mind but I was not sure to break up the silence. Silence is like a wall. Once you push it down, you would find the area behind it is quite open. But the problem is whether you have the courage to overcome it.

Whenever we face some chances, excuses seem to appear one by one. They disturb our judgment severely. Accepting excuses is always easier than taking chances. But excuses seldom bring us good fortunate.

Since the bridging course is so short, there isn’t sufficient time for me to hesitate any more. Or else, if I keep hesitating, there will never be enough time for me. I should change from now and be a more proactive person tomorrow.

  1. I found you have said all I want to say. The brave ones always achieve their goals, it's not they are more competent than us, just that they created more chance for themselves. It is right to be wrong. I found some times I think to much, and am to eager to be perfect. During this time, the chance is already gone.

  2. Indeed, you are right, Ling Xue. Grab the opportunity when it comes by because you never know when it will pass you by again =)

I always encourage all of you to share in class. Many a times, it is from sharing our views and opinions with others that we improve and learn.

I know you made great efforts to share your ideas and views in class, and I want you to know that I appreciate that very much!
