The Different Architecture Styles

Architecture is one of the most popular topics currently. However, different places have different styles of architecture.
In the ancient time of china, the most buildings are always in groups which are symmetrical between each other in the same yard.We call the big yard quadrangle. It symboloizes getting together with each other. The wealth businessmen always live in the so-called quadrangles with their family members and their servants. They look cozy for a big family to live in. However, there are many palaces including the famous GuGong Palace. These palaces are for those nobles and even the king. They are so splended and fambulous. The buildings there are gaint and roomy with nice ceilings and big stone pillars. The walls are quite high for safty. The whole palace are in red and golden. They are the symbol of wealth and status.
However, in the western countries, the buildings are in the Gothic style. They look more open in our view. They are tall. The tops are sharp. The room insides is very spacious. The aisles are very long sometises for they will have a good view. There are many churches in the Gothic style, like the Milan Great Castle.
They are combinated with the minds of both the architectors and the artists.
They symbolize the rights of the God.Because in that time, the whole society in the western countries was popular with theology.People there worshiped the so-called godfather. This kind of arthitectures are useful for the priests to advocate the theology. It was during the Renaissance that this style was popular.Up until now, this style is quite famous.
Different places have different styles of architectures. The styles always symbolize their governers' interests ang rights.

  3. Yes!I'm also interested in architecture.Actually before the College Entrance exam I dreamed to major architecture, but my score limited,so I chose a similar subject named"Industrial Design",in which we also learnt some styles of architecture. As far as I have learnt, there are at least 3 styles well-known,such as Gothic style, which is typical for its high and sharp spires;Baroque style has the most beautiful decorations;and Rococo style, which sources from France and it uses plenty of abstract decorations. From my point of view,I prefer Baroque, because churches of Baroque style are always magnificent with mysterious atmosphere and it stands for spiritual freedom, luxury decorations make you really enjoy it!

  4. What you've shared on here is very interesting, Mi Yang, as it shows how architecture reflects, or responds, to the culture of the time. I'm certainly no expert when it comes to architecture, but I would agree with Zhang Jiao that the three styles can all be found in European architecture, as each was popular during different periods. The Gothic architecture was prevalent from the 12th to the 16th century and then enjoyed a revival in the 18th and 19th centuries, so that may be why it is thought to represent Western architecture, as its revival was more recent than the peak of the Baroque and Rococo styles. Those who study architecture will certainly have more to say on this.
