My trip to Fenghuang

It was right after our College Entrance Examination, before we set out for our own journey for college that we decided to have a grown up trip. We 5 friends together wanted to visit Fenghuang to see the beautiful scenery and also try a new life after a long boring, tiring senior 3 course. We packed our bags, booked the train tickets ourselves and then left.

It was an exciting and special journey, since it was the first time for me to travel without my parents. During our 8 hours on train, we played cards, listened to music and chatted with each other. To be honest, it was a different kind of feeling to travel with your peers. You’ll feel more comfortable and joyful.

After sitting for such a long time, we was deadly exhausted and sleepy. Finally, we arrived there.

At the first glimpse of the landscape, I saw the green mountains surrounded by clear streams with butterflies swirling around all kinds of flowers. Compared with the highly developed city, Fenghuan remained the blue sky as well as its traditional customs. Before we entered their village, we had to drink three bowls of their home-made wine and also had a singing competition with them. If you win, then you can get in. Otherwise, no one can help. Luckily, we all overcame the challenge.

Things became more interesting when we went to the site of an ancient city, dressed up with their costume and started dancing with them hand in hand in a circle. Walking along the bank of the Tuo River and pretending to be a girl from minority was also an unforgettable experience.

Fenghuang locates at the west of Hunan province. It’s an ideal place for people who want to get closer to nature or relax themselves. If you’re interested in literature, you can go to the former residence of the famous literator Shen Congwen. If you’re fond of architecture, you may want to have a look at the Diao Jiao Lou. If you like something strange, you can also explore the mysterious of the special way they transport the people who died out of hometown back, which is called Gan Shi in southern Hunan.

In a nutshell, it’s really a place worth visiting. I’ve already planned to revisit there after we come back to China.
