# The capital museum

What should you do if you want to know more about Beijing but have only three or four hour’s time? I strongly recommend the capital museum to you.
The capital museum is founded in 1953, but for some reason it was not open to the public not until 1981. The initial place for the museum is the Confucius temple. But the museum is not only small but also lack of protection. It owns few visitors in comparison to the Palace Museum, the National Museum and the National Art Museum. So the government decided to build a larger and modern museum for exhibition, protection, research, and culture communication. The new building was completed in 2005 and finally opened to the public in the following year. The New Capital Museum locates at 16 Fuxingmenwai Avenue; Xicheng District in Beijing. It shows a full view of Beijing with all kinds of cultural relics and latest technologies.
The whole building can be divided into 5parts.
The first part is the outside part which includes walls, garden and the roof. The enormous roof and the gradient at the entrance square were influenced by the design from ancient Chinese architecture, and the stone-made wall was meant to symbolize of the city wall of Beijing. A piece of danbi (a massive stone carved with images of dragon, phoenix) is settled in front of the north square of the museum. Moreover there are hundreds of solar energy batteries which provide half of the electricity in the museum on the steel structure roof.
There are three separate buildings under the roof: The Bronze Exhibition Hall, The Rectangular Exhibition Hall and The Office Building.
The Rectangular Exhibition Hall is the main exhibition hall. The first floor is the temporary hall which is used for culture communication. The second floor is the History in Beijing Hall which introduced many historical facts of Beijing, such as Xinhai revolution and Tubaozhibian. The third floor is the Beijing’s History Hall which shows the construction history of Beijing from Chunqiu to Minguo. The fourth floor show traditional customers and precious cultural relics including Buddhist, Jade, Chinese and gold.
The Bronze Exhibition Hall, which has an oval-shape, was also meant to symbolize the unearthing of ancient relics by its slanting design in which extends from the ground to the exterior of the museum. There is a world classic movie theater which can play the clearest wide scream movies in the world. There are also many paintings and calligraphy on the fourth and third floor.
In the middle of the three building lies the reception hall which is used for meeting and gathering. An archway from the Ming Dynasty is set in the middle. It’s a symbol of old Beijing because the archway originally lies in front of the successive dynasties temple.
The capital museum is really a great place for you to visit. If you have enough time, just pay a visit.
