Love, the highest intelligence

Machines these days are becoming exceptionally smart. They have surpassed us in many fields. But one thing for sure, they can never really love a human being like us.
In the movie AI, a special boy named David was created. Separated from all other robots, he was designed to love. David was a replacement of a boy, who had been severely injured through an accident. His parents couldn’t bear the grief of losing their son and accepted to “adopt” David.
From that day on, little David began to detect the life as a human being. At first, he seemed pretty odd. After a day, the family was almost driven mad by him. Though he dried every means to please his “parents”, the effect just turned out on the contrary. Magic happened when he first called out “mummy”. When you see mother and David hug together, you would naturally overlook the fact that the boy was actually manmade.
David, programmed to love, perceived every act of others as kind of affection. He was gradually accepted by the family and got the love from his “mummy”.
Then one day, things all went wrong. The boy who was injured recovered and went back home. He treated David as a new super toy and envied the love his own mother gave to David. He then moved to seduce David to irritate his mummy. Sadly, little innocent David couldn’t tell people’s evil will. He trusted everyone and did as the boy told him to.
Things become so serious that his mummy was forced to abandon him in a forrest. This time, he knew it was not a game mother used to play with him. He cried, holding tightly to his mummy’s hand and begged her to forgive him. He asked if Pinocchio could become a real boy, why couldn’t he. His mummy said in tears that it was only a fairy tale. And a machine could never become a real boy. In desperate, David watched his beloved mommy drove away without him.
Though his mummy betrayed him, David never hated her. He thought it all his fault that he was not a real boy. He then went on his long journey to find the Blue Fairy, who was said to have turned Pinocchio into a real boy.
One his way, he met some robot friends and narrowly escaped being destroyed by cruel human beings. He even found his creator. After being told that there was no way for him to become a real boy, his heart sank. On the siege of giving up, he caught sight of the blue fairy, a clay-made figure in a discarded park.
He prayed and prayed until 2000 years have passed. The love for his mummy never fades. It carried on and melt in the long river of time……The border between man and robot becomes vague. If one day robot can really love people, how should we treat them? Will we be able to love them back sincerely?

  1. If robots could have feelings and emotions as we human beings do one day, I guess, many would choose to marry a robot. But if they do, will there still be differences between a robot and a human being?
